Motown signs Ruben Morfin for one year and $1.68 million
The 25-year-old catcher joins the Soul after batting .313 in 65 Triple-A games for Kauai.
Motown signed free-agent catcher Ruben Morfin to a one-year, $1.68 million contract on January 6.
The 25-year-old switch-hitter, who throws right-handed, arrives after a productive 2043 season with Kauai in PABL Triple A. In 65 games and 227 at-bats, he collected 71 hits, including 15 doubles, a triple and eight home runs. He drove in 28 runs and scored 32.
Morfin finished with a .313 batting average, .373 on-base percentage and .493 slugging percentage—an .866 OPS. He drew 17 walks against 39 strikeouts and stole two bases without being caught. Those figures are from his minor-league season; his current profile lists no major-league service time.
Behind the plate, Morfin appeared in 58 games and caught 517 innings for Kauai. His fielding line records 358 putouts, 19 assists and one error, a .997 fielding percentage.
The signing adds a catcher to Motown’s organization on a contract running through the 2044 season.
