Tijuana adds Sam Welborn and Fernando Martinez on $15.28 million in deals
Welborn receives two years and $11.8 million; Martinez signs for one year and $3.48 million.
Tijuana signed starter Sam Welborn to a two-year, $11.8 million contract on January 19, then added reliever Fernando Martinez on January 31 for one year and $3.48 million. The two free-agent deals total $15.28 million.
Martinez brings a career record of 61–57 and a 3.09 ERA, with 963 strikeouts in 1,033⅔ innings. He has appeared in 229 games and recorded 54 saves.
On January 19, the Toros also designated reliever Mike Reemts for assignment, placed him on waivers and removed him from the secondary, or 40-man, roster.
