Trout and Venezuela award $6 million bonuses to international amateurs
Tony Arroyo joins Toms River; Ramon Villarruel signs with the 41ers.
Toms River and Venezuela each committed a $6 million signing bonus to a Dominican international amateur on January 14.
The Trout signed center fielder Tony Arroyo, 17, to a minor-league contract. The 41ers signed 16-year-old pitcher Ramon Villarruel to a minor-league deal with the same bonus.
Arroyo bats and throws right-handed. Villarruel throws right-handed and is listed as a switch-hitter. Both entered the PABL international amateur free-agent pool on October 7, 2043.
The two agreements carry $12 million in combined signing bonuses and follow the league’s January 11 announcement opening its international amateur signing period.
