Winter desk: Dodd joins Trout; Phoenix commits $74.2 million to Pugh

One-year deals draw big money as Toronto, Vancouver and New York add several free agents.

Seven years is not the only way to make a splash this winter. Toms River signed starter Travis Dodd for one year and $45.6 million on December 17, while Montreal gave first baseman Bryan Barnett a one-year, $34 million deal.

Phoenix took the longer route with reliever Gabe Pugh, signing him for three years and $74.2 million the same day. Lehigh Valley added starter Duncan Gilbert for one year and $16 million.

Vancouver put together a three-player December 17 haul: starter Tony Sierra for one year and $15.6 million, reliever Raul Rodriguez for one year and $10.5 million, and center fielder Ed Prososki for two years and $32 million.

Toronto stayed busy, too. The Blue Sox signed catchers Adrian Ferrari for one year and $6 million and Guillermo Quintana for one year and $10 million. Left fielder Julio Buenrostro joined on a two-year, $14 million contract, and third baseman Justin Brackbill signed for one year and $11 million. All four deals were recorded December 17.

New York signed catcher Chris Wrench for two years and $12.8 million on December 17, then added left fielder Edwin Colindres for three years and $18.6 million on December 18.

Elsewhere, Mexico City claimed closer Steve Moulton off waivers from Toms River on December 15. The Axolotl made their addition without a free-agent signing.
